Egypt exported $409 million worth of fruits and vegetables to the United Kingdom in 2024, with fruit exports totaling $259 million (197 million GBP) and vegetable exports $150 million (114 million GBP).

The announcement coincided with a meeting of the Egypt-UK Agricultural Mechanism Working Group, aimed at strengthening trade and agricultural cooperation between the two countries. The Egyptian delegation was led by Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, Head of the Egyptian Trade Representation, alongside officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Customs Authority, and agricultural regulatory bodies. The British side was headed by Rob Lally, Head of Africa and Trade Security Relations at the UK Department for International Trade.

The discussions focused on opportunities to increase bilateral trade, particularly in agricultural products, and on attracting UK investments to Egypt’s food sector.

In 2024, total trade between Egypt and the UK reached approximately £2.9 billion, with Egyptian exports totaling £1.4 billion and imports from the UK at £1.5 billion. British investments in Egypt stood at £20.6 billion as of February 2025, spread across 2,103 companies in various sectors.

The meeting also serves as preparation for the upcoming visit of the UK Prime Minister to Cairo in fall 2025, expected to elevate bilateral relations toward a comprehensive strategic partnership.
