The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a reminder to Egyptian communities abroad, urging them to respect the laws of their host countries when posting videos on social media that seek consular assistance or highlight difficulties faced by Egyptian citizens overseas.
The ministry emphasized that such videos may unintentionally involve foreign authorities, public institutions, or private entities, which could place the individual posting the content at risk of legal consequences in some countries.
In its statement, the ministry called on Egyptians abroad to rely on official channels for any consular assistance. Citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest Egyptian diplomatic mission directly, either by visiting in person or using the official WhatsApp hotline numbers provided by each embassy. These numbers are publicly shared on the social media platforms of every diplomatic mission.
Additionally, a central consular hotline has been established at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ headquarters in Cairo. Citizens may reach this line via WhatsApp at +20 12 2685 8000 for guidance or to request official assistance.
The ministry reassured Egyptians abroad that it remains fully committed to protecting their interests and providing comprehensive consular support, provided that requests are submitted through the proper official channels. By using these formal avenues, the ministry can ensure timely and effective assistance while helping citizens avoid potential legal risks in their host countries.
