U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau has begun a high-level diplomatic visit to Egypt as part of an extended African tour that will also include Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti from January 24 to February 1, 2026.

Landau’s stop in Cairo marks the first leg of the trip, during which he is expected to meet with Egyptian government officials and representatives of U.S. companies operating and investing in the country. Discussions are anticipated to focus on expanding economic cooperation, strengthening bilateral trade ties, and addressing shared regional challenges, including security and stability issues.

The visit signals Washington’s intention to deepen engagement with key partners in North and East Africa, reflecting broader U.S. diplomatic and economic priorities on the continent. Landau has emphasized the importance of face-to-face diplomacy in building trust and advancing common goals, including promoting peace, regional security, and mutually beneficial commercial relations.

Following his engagements in Egypt, Landau will travel with U.S. Africa Command Commander General Dagvin Anderson to capitals across East Africa, where he will continue high-level meetings with political and business leaders.

This trip represents one of Landau’s first major overseas missions since assuming his current role and underscores the United States’ ongoing efforts to reinforce strategic partnerships across Africa.
