Egypt Daily News – The Pricing Committee of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources decided to raise the prices of all types of diesel and gasoline, and to adjust the price of diesel supplied to the electricity and food industries, as of Thursday.

Several governorates, including Cairo, Qalyubia, and Beni Sueif, announced a new fare for public transportation, while the rest of the governorates, including Giza, are awaiting imminent decisions to increase public transportation fares.

The government periodically reviews fuel prices every three months, since it began implementing an automatic pricing mechanism on a number of petroleum products in 2019.

The increase came hours after Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that the government intends to raise the prices of some products, including petroleum products, gradually over a year and a half, until December 2025. Madbouly said yesterday that the government decided that the increase would be gradual for the year 2025 and done gradually so that the citizen does not feel it, all at once.
