Egypt Daily News – The situation in the Kursk region remains tense as conflicting accounts emerge regarding the ongoing conflict between Ukrainian forces and Russian military units.

On Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Ukrainian incursions into the Kursk region had ceased, attributing this halt to the decisive actions of their military units along with the Federal Security Service.

The ministry detailed ongoing operations aimed at neutralizing Ukrainian formations in the Sudzhinsky and Korenevsky districts, which are close to the border with Ukraine.

Despite these claims, there appears to be evidence on the ground suggesting that Ukrainian forces are still active in the area.

A video captured inside a vehicle traveling through the town of Sodja—located approximately ten kilometers from the border—showed destroyed vehicles and damaged streets, indicating military activity. The precise timing of the video’s recording remains uncertain.

In its statement, the Russian ministry reported significant Ukrainian losses, including up to 400 soldiers and various armored vehicles. However, independent verification of these claims is currently lacking.

The situation has reportedly been challenging for Russian military bloggers, with reports of cut-off communication lines and severe injuries among those documenting the conflict.

Notably, the Ukrainian military has not made any official statements regarding the operation. Military analyst Mick Ryan noted the deployment of experienced Ukrainian units, in contrast to previous formations used in past offensives, suggesting a strategic shift that may contribute to the current developments on the front lines.

The situation remains fluid, with both sides likely continuing their military operations amidst the ongoing conflict.
