Somali President arrives in Cairo at the head of a high-level delegation

Egypt Daily News – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is currently on a two-day official visit to Cairo, aimed at strengthening the strategic cooperation and historical ties between Somalia and Egypt.

Reports from the official Somali news agency, SONA, indicate that President Mohamud will hold discussions with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The Somali delegation accompanying the president includes the Minister of Defense and the head of the Intelligence and Security Service.

A significant outcome of this visit is expected to be the signing of a military cooperation agreement, which reflects the long-standing relations between the two nations.

The Somali ambassador highlighted the importance of this visit, emphasizing its timely nature amid ongoing regional and international challenges, and acknowledged Egypt’s key role in assisting Somalia in overcoming these issues.

Additionally, on the same day, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the inauguration of the new headquarters for the Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu, reinforcing Egypt’s commitment to fostering closer ties and cooperation with Somalia.
