Egypt Daily News – Following a surprise Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory that began on August 6, this incursion marks the largest foreign attack on Russian soil since World War II and has resulted in Ukrainian forces making territorial gains within Russia.

Russia has initiated the evacuation of thousands of people from border areas, particularly the Glushkov district in Kursk, which has a population of around 20,000.

This evacuation comes amidst reports of continued Ukrainian advances, supported by aerial and ground operations involving drones, heavy artillery, and tanks. To date, approximately 200,000 individuals have been evacuated from regions bordering Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has stated that its forces have been actively engaged in combating the incursion, claiming to have intercepted Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod region and carried out airstrikes on Ukrainian positions using Sukhoi-34 bombers.

Intense fighting is reported to be ongoing up to 18 kilometers deep within Russian territory, showcasing the escalating nature of the conflict.

In response to the heightened tensions and violence, Russian officials have declared a state of emergency in the Belgorod region, where they assert that terrorist attacks from Ukrainian armed groups have caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure, resulting in casualties among civilians.

The situation remains complex and dynamic, with both sides experiencing losses and the ongoing military operations casting uncertainty over the regional stability.
