Wheat leads Egypt’s imports from Russia

Egypt Daily News – Egypt’s imports from Russia experienced a modest rise from January to May 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to CAMPAS data.

The total value of these imports reached approximately $2.426 billion, an increase from $2.360 billion in the first five months of 2023, reflecting an uptick of $65.716 million.

This growth was significantly influenced by Egypt’s grain imports, which totaled around $1.417 billion in early 2024, compared to $1.276 billion during the same timeframe in 2023, marking an increase of $140.941 million.

Additionally, the imports of iron and steel also saw a substantial rise, valued at $369.949 million in the first five months of 2024, up from $155.320 million in 2023, resulting in an increase of $214.629 million.

The imports of iron products or steel also contributed, amounting to $155.080 million.

In contrast, Egypt’s imports from China showed a slight increase as well, reaching approximately $5.238 billion during the same period in 2024, compared to about $5.237 billion in the first five months of 2023, which translates to an increase of $443,000.
