Egypt Daily News – Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tay Atseki Selassie has called on Egypt to move past their differences, emphasizing that Ethiopia is open to dialogue and negotiation regarding the ongoing issues related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

He expressed a desire for peaceful resolutions and highlighted the importance of communication between the two nations.

In addition to the GERD discussions, the Foreign Minister also addressed the disputes with Somalia, advocating for resolution through negotiations and cautioning against external involvement that could jeopardize Ethiopia’s security.

This statement comes in light of accusations from Ethiopia regarding Egypt’s military assistance to Somalia, which Addis Ababa perceives as a form of foreign intervention in a region already susceptible to instability.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently released a statement accusing Cairo of sending military aid to Somalia, which they believe could worsen the situation in the Horn of Africa. The Foreign Minister reiterated that Ethiopia is closely monitoring any developments that could threaten its national security.

On the Somali side, the Somali ambassador in Cairo, Ali Abdi Awari, announced that Egyptian military equipment and delegations have started to arrive in Mogadishu.

He mentioned that this move is part of Egypt’s preparation to join the African Union peacekeeping forces in Somalia (AMISOM), which is set to replace the existing African Union Transition Mission (ATMIS) by January 2025.

This military collaboration follows a recent summit between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, where a joint defense agreement was established.
