Egypt Daily News – Osama Hamdan, leader in Hamas highlighted the critical position of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in response to recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview, Hamdan asserted that it is vital to recognize Egypt’s rejection of being used by Netanyahu in his political maneuvers, which are aimed at prolonging the ongoing crisis and avoiding genuine solutions.
Hamdan reiterated Hamas’s commitment to the Philadelphi axis, which is integral to the envisioned withdrawal from Gaza, linking it to agreements on a ceasefire, complete withdrawal, and a prisoner exchange.
He criticized the U.S. administration for potentially overlooking this requirement, suggesting that such an oversight would empower Netanyahu to continue military actions and evade accountability for the deaths of both prisoners and other individuals in the conflict.
He also condemned American statements about partial withdrawals from heavily populated areas in Gaza as misleading, indicating that these terms are designed to create the illusion of progress while allowing for continued Israeli military operations.
Hamdan expressed frustration over the repeated rejections by Netanyahu of initiatives for peace that had been accepted by Hamas, underscoring the urgency of resolving the situation of prisoners who have been affected by ongoing violence.
Earlier, Egypt firmly rejected Netanyahu’s statements made on September 2, accusing him of attempting to manipulate public opinion and undermine the efforts of mediators, including Egypt itself.
The Egyptian government held Israel accountable for the escalation of tensions resulting from such statements and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.
Ambassador Dr. Sufyan Al-Qudat, the official spokesperson for Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, reiterated Jordan’s solidarity with Egypt in addressing these Israeli allegations and reaffirmed the commitment to holding the Israeli government accountable for the ramifications of its statements.
