Egypt Daily News – The Turkish Foreign Ministry has condemned recent remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Egypt and the Philadelphia Corridor, labeling them as “unacceptable” and accusing Netanyahu of spreading “lies.”
In an official statement, Turkey criticized Netanyahu for his rhetoric, which it views as an attempt to manipulate public opinion and distract from ongoing conflict in Gaza. Turkey reaffirmed its support for Egypt’s mediation efforts aimed at ending the war and aiding Palestinians.
Netanyahu has maintained that Israeli forces should remain along the border separating Gaza and Egypt, known as the Philadelphia Corridor, citing security concerns about smuggling weapons and military equipment.
However, a recent U.S. State Department statement indicated that Israel had agreed to a proposal involving the withdrawal of Israeli forces from densely populated areas, including the Philadelphia Corridor.
In response to Israel’s claims, Egypt has rejected Netanyahu’s assertions and called the Israeli government accountable for its statements, suggesting they could escalate tensions in the region.
Other countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, have also voiced their disapproval of Netanyahu’s comments, expressing solidarity with Egypt.
