Egypt Daily News – Ukraine launched its largest drone attack on the Moscow region to date, an area that rarely experiences such attacks.
This resulted in damage to dozens of homes and redirected around 50 flights away from the capital’s airports.
Meanwhile, Russian forces announced their continued advance in eastern Ukraine, claiming control over the city of Krasnohorivka, which has often been a significant point in the Donetsk region, as well as over three other towns. Kyiv stated that Russia attacked it during the night using 46 drones, of which Ukraine destroyed 38.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Kremlin, told reporters that the drone attack is another reminder of the true nature of the political leadership in Ukraine.
Witnesses stated that drone attacks on Russia caused damage to several residential buildings in Ramenskoye in the Moscow region, leading to fires in residential units.
Russia stated that it has destroyed at least 20 Ukrainian attack drones while they were flying over the Moscow region, as well as 124 other drones over 8 additional areas.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that more than 70 drones were shot down over the Bryansk region of Russia, along with dozens of other drones in different areas.
The ministry did not mention any material or human losses as a result of this, but a 46-year-old woman was killed in Ramenskoye, located on the southeastern outskirts of the capital, as stated by Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov in a post on the Telegram app.
He pointed out that “three people were injured” and were taken to the hospital. He added that approximately 50 apartments were damaged and that the debris from the drones that fell to the ground needs to be cleared away.
Due to the attack, there was a disruption in air traffic at several airports. In the afternoon, a spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Agency announced that the restrictions imposed on the Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports in Moscow have been lifted.
More than 21 million people live in the Moscow area. Three out of four airports in Moscow were closed for more than six hours, and the destinations of nearly 50 flights were changed.
The Russian capital and its region have been subjected to several drone attacks since the large-scale assault launched by the Kremlin in Ukraine in February 2022, but this is the first time an attack has resulted in casualties.
