Egypt Daily News – The government disaster management agency in Vietnam stated today, Thursday, that the death toll from Typhoon Yagi and the resulting landslides and floods has risen to 226 people, while the pressure from the floods in the capital, Hanoi, has eased.
Vietnam is still suffering from the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit Asia this year, which made landfall on the northeastern coast of the country last Saturday.
According to the disaster agency, more than 100 people are still missing, and around 800 have been injured.
Floodwaters continue to inundate several areas of the capital, Hanoi, today, Thursday. However, the meteorological agency stated late in the day that the flood pressure has decreased there, while flash floods and landslides are still causing damage in other regions of the north.
The city had previously evacuated thousands of people living near the Red River, which has risen to its highest level in 20 years.
The Disaster Management Agency stated that landslides and floods have buried more than 494,000 acres of rice fields and crops in the north of the country.
Several countries, including Australia, Japan, South Korea, and the United States, have pledged to send aid to Vietnam.
