Egypt, US, strategic dialogue

Egypt Daily News – During the strategic dialogue held today in Cairo, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti confirmed that Egypt aligns with the United States on the belief that there are no military solutions to the crisis in Gaza.

He emphasized the importance of strategic relations between Cairo and Washington, stating that these relations are vital for consultation and navigating the complex conflicts in the region.

Attending the session alongside U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Abdel Atti noted that Egypt is actively collaborating with Qatar to achieve a ceasefire, ensure the release of hostages, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected in Gaza.

The discussion also covered the urgent need for a ceasefire in Libya and Sudan, as well as the situation in the Horn of Africa, highlighting the importance of stability in the region and the sovereignty of Somalia.

Prior to the strategic dialogue session, Blinken met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace, where the main focus was on finding ways to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Blinken’s visit is seen as crucial, as Egypt, the U.S., and Qatar play significant roles in mediating the war between Israel and Hamas, which escalated following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7.

The goal of the trilateral mediation is to secure a ceasefire and the release of hostages, amid a humanitarian crisis that has claimed tens of thousands of Palestinian lives.

The strategic dialogue serves to strengthen U.S.-Egypt relations, enhance economic cooperation, and deepen cultural and educational ties between the two nations.

The last round of this dialogue took place in November 2021 in Washington, where key areas of cooperation were identified, including economic development, human rights, defense, and security.
