11 Egyptians die in accident in Libya

Egypt Daily News – In a heartbreaking incident reflecting the dangers of illegal immigration, 11 Egyptians tragically lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries in a severe traffic accident in Derna, Libya.

The accident occurred last Wednesday evening on a desert road in eastern Libya, when a vehicle carrying 26 Egyptians, who were attempting to migrate illegally, crashed.

Libyan authorities have arrested the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident and are currently holding him. Among the injured, two individuals are reported to be in critical condition.

The situation has attracted the attention of both Libyan and Egyptian officials, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs actively monitoring developments.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep concern over the incident, with its spokesperson, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, stating that Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, has tasked the consular sector and the Egyptian consulate general in Benghazi with following up systematically.

They are coordinating with Libyan authorities to ensure that the injured receive necessary medical care and that the bodies of the deceased are expedited back to Egypt once all legal processes are complete.

In light of this tragedy, Egypt has reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking and the networks behind illegal immigration.

The government has called for stringent measures against these criminal organizations and has highlighted the establishment of strict laws aimed at preventing illegal migration. Additionally, there have been increased security measures along Egyptian borders to curb the departure of potential illegal migrants from the country.
