Egyptian Foreign Minister meets with his Sudanese counterpart to discusses water security between the two countries

Egypt Daily News – In a meeting held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged with Sudanese Foreign Minister Hussein Awad Ali to discuss Egypt’s support for Sudan amidst its ongoing crisis.

Dr. Abdel Aty outlined Egypt’s commitment to various international efforts aimed at maintaining Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of reaching a resolution to the crisis that safeguards civilian lives, establishes a comprehensive ceasefire, and protects Sudan’s resources.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s dedication to facilitating the passage of aid trucks into Sudan and highlighted the significance of delivering humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.

The Foreign Minister also commended the Sudanese Sovereign Council for their willingness to accommodate requests from parties involved in the Geneva talks, which includes the opening of the “Adri” crossing for humanitarian aid.

Additionally, the ministers addressed the critical issue of shared water security between Egypt and Sudan concerning the Nile River basin.

They discussed the challenges both countries face and agreed on the necessity of joint coordination to counter unilateral actions that could violate international law, ensuring that the rights and interests of both nations and their peoples are preserved.
