Egypt Daily News – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has condemned the killing of six migrants from Egypt, El Salvador, and Peru by the army, describing it as an “unfortunate act” that must be thoroughly investigated and punished.

During her daily press conference, she confirmed that the victims were from the aforementioned countries and mentioned that the government is in contact with their embassies to assist the victims’ families.

Sheinbaum stated that those responsible for the shooting have been handed over to the public prosecutor’s office, which is conducting the investigation.

The president emphasized the need to determine whether blame should be placed on higher leadership or solely on the soldiers who fired their weapons. She pledged that measures would be implemented to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

The incident in question occurred when soldiers mistakenly opened fire on the migrants after mistaking their vehicles for those associated with criminal groups, following reports of explosions in the area. Four migrants died at the scene, and two others later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

The event underscores the dangers faced by migrants crossing Mexico, who often flee violence and poverty in their home countries. They are vulnerable to various threats, including criminal gang violence and exploitation during their perilous journeys.
