President Sisi receives the first Iranian foreign minister in Egypt since 2013

Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi today, marking the first visit by an Iranian Foreign Minister since 2013.

The spokesperson for the Presidency mentioned that the meeting focused on reviewing the ongoing developments in the region, where the President affirmed the Egyptian stance calling for not expanding the circle of conflict and the necessity of de-escalation to prevent slipping into a comprehensive regional war, which would have serious repercussions on the security and resources of all countries and peoples in the region.

The President emphasized, the need to continue and intensify international efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, stopping violations and assaults in the West Bank, and delivering urgent and sufficient humanitarian aid to end the worsening suffering of civilians.

For his part, the Iranian minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing efforts to achieve stability and security in the region, commending the Egyptian role in this regard across all fronts.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also conveyed President Masoud Bezhakian’s greetings and appreciation to the Egyptian President, and it was agreed on the importance of continuing the current path to explore the prospects for joint development of relations between the two countries.

Earlier today, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti said that Araqchi’s visit to Cairo is part of Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate and prevent escalation, and to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.

In his meeting with the King of Jordan during his visit to Amman today, Araqchi emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions in the region, warning that “the continuation of killing and destruction will keep the region hostage to violence and the expansion of conflict.”

He pointed out the Kingdom’s keenness to “make every effort with brotherly and friendly countries to restore stability in the region and find a political horizon for the Palestinian cause.”

While the Iranian minister emphasized the necessity of collective action among the countries of the region to stop the “Zionist war machine,” prevent the expansion of the war, and protect the stability and security of the region.
