Egypt Daily News – Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, the Minister of Culture, mourned the death of Hassan Youssef, who passed away today, Tuesday, at the age of nearly 90.
He said: “With great sadness and sorrow, we received the news of the passing of Hassan Youssef, an icon of Egyptian and Arab cinema, and one of the luminaries of Egyptian and Arab art, who left an unforgettable mark in the world of cinema and television.”
For decades, Hassan Youssef has contributed to enriching the artistic life with a number of immortal works that will remain in the memory of generations.
His diverse characters embody human emotions, express important societal issues, and reflect his belief in the message of art in serving the community. He pointed out that the legacy of the great artist will remain alive in the hearts of his admirers and in the history of art.
The Minister of Culture, on behalf of the ministry’s staff, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late artist and his large audience, praying to the Almighty God to envelop him in His vast mercy and grant him a place in His spacious paradise.
Hassan Youssef was born in the Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood on April 14, 1934. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and also studied at the Faculty of Commerce.
His artistic journey began when he worked as an artistic supervisor in the school theater for the Benha educational area.
He was discovered by the artist Hussein Riad at the National Theater, who introduced him as a new face in the film “Ana Horra” alongside the actress Lubna Abdel Aziz, after which he embarked on a career with roles that exceeded 150 films.
He also directed several films in the seventies and acted in some of them as well. Since the eighties, he has shone on the small screen, presenting several successful television and theatrical works.
