Egypt Daily News – Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine using dozens of drones and cruise missiles. Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Haloshenko stated on his Facebook page that the Russian army targeted Ukrainian energy networks.
The Ukrainian Air Force stated that dozens of Russian drones were launched at Ukraine last night, followed by bursts of cruise missiles, and added that Russia also fired Kinzhal ballistic missiles at areas in western Ukraine.
This comes as the military leadership in Ukraine said that there is “very violent” fighting taking place in the vicinity of the city of Bakovsk in eastern Ukraine, which is a strategic point, after a Russian attack that lasted for months, with estimates indicating that Russian forces are now a few kilometers from the city.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported in a field report on Friday that Ukrainian forces repelled about 40 Russian attempts to storm the defenses around Pakrovsk during the past 24 hours.
The Ukrainian defenses in Donetsk have been facing great pressure since the beginning of this year, under a fierce Russian attack to completely seize the Donbass region, in eastern Ukraine.
Russian forces are trying to bypass Ukraine’s defenses with huge numbers of soldiers and powerful slide bombs that destroy fortifications.
Bakrovsk, which had a population of about 60,000 before the Russian military operation in February 2022, is considered one of Ukraine’s most important defensive fortresses and a major logistical center in the Donetsk region. Its seizure would threaten Ukraine’s defense capabilities and supply routes, and would bring Russia closer to its stated goal of seizing the entire Donetsk region.
This comes as the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that air defense systems destroyed 4 Ukrainian drones in the airspace of the Russian province of Vladimir.
Before that, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that, last night, air defense systems destroyed 13 Ukrainian drones in the airspace of Kursk, Belgorod, Rostov and Lipetsk provinces.
The governor of the Russian Belgorod province announced that one person had been killed as a result of a Ukrainian march attack on the town of Terebrinskoye in the province.
