Hamas releases 5th batch of Israeli hostages

Egypt Daily News – Hamas handed over the fifth batch of Israeli detainees to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza on Saturday, as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.

The three released detainees are: “Eliyahu Datsun Youssef Sharabi, Or Abraham Lisha Levy, and Ohad Ben Ami”.

A security source said that “all the detainees will be transferred immediately after their exit from the Gaza Strip, accompanied by the Israeli army, to the reception complex in Re’im to meet their families, and then they will be transferred to the Eicheloff and Sheba hospitals.”

Israel is expected to release 183 Palestinian prisoners from its prisons as part of the agreement.

The Hamas-affiliated Prisoners’ Media Office said that Israel will release “18 prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, 54 prisoners with high sentences, and 111 prisoners from the Gaza Strip who were arrested after October 7.”

By completing the delivery of the fifth batch, Hamas will have released 16 Israeli detainees out of 33 included in the first phase of the agreement, along with five Thai workers, in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and detainees, in a multi-stage process that may pave the way for ending the war in Gaza.

On Saturday morning, cars belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) arrived at the handover point for Israeli detainees in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip as part of the fifth instalment of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas.
