Egypt Daily News – President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the Somali government and its national army’s efforts in combating terrorism in its comprehensive sense, which includes intellectual, social, developmental, and security dimensions.

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call with Somali President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency stated that President El-Sisi was keen to check on the health of the Somali president following the recent failed attempt to target his convoy outside the presidential palace in Mogadishu. He emphasized Egypt’s full solidarity, both leadership and people, with President Mohamud and the brotherly Somali people.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawy, the official spokesperson, added that President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting the Somali government’s and national army’s efforts in combating terrorism in its comprehensive sense, covering intellectual, social, developmental, and security dimensions. He also stressed Egypt’s keenness to continue joint efforts to explore broader horizons for cooperation in various fields, given the close fraternal ties and shared interests between the two countries.

The official spokesperson stated that the Somali president, in turn, expressed his gratitude to President El-Sisi, praising Egypt’s support for his country. Last week, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy was hit by a roadside bomb explosion as it passed through an intersection near the presidential palace in central Mogadishu.

In a statement, the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the explosion targeted the president’s convoy while he was on his way to join frontline forces in the Hirshabelle state for a Ramadan iftar with the soldiers. The statement confirmed that President Sheikh Mohamud survived the assassination attempt and continued his journey without any obstacles.
