Egypt Daily News – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that Syria is now witnessing what he described as a “new phase,” noting that the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must “involve the people” in the process of reaching a comprehensive political solution in the country.

Erdogan said in a phone call with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, during the Turkish National Security Council meeting: “The conflict in Syria has reached a new stage, and Turkey hopes that Syria will not witness more instability and that the events will not cause casualties among civilians.” , according to the official Turkish channel TRT.

The Turkish President continued, saying: “At this stage, the Syrian regime must urgently engage its people in order to reach a comprehensive political solution.”

Erdogan noted that his country “is making efforts to reduce tension, protect civilians, and pave the way for the political process, and will continue to do so,” he said.

The Syrian opposition factions took control of the city of Hama on Thursday evening after taking control of the city of Aleppo a few days ago, and are continuing their path towards the city of Homs.
