Egypt Daily News – Abdel Rahman Tolaba wins the world gold medal in foil fencing under 20, a member of Egypt’s national foil fencing team, succeeded in winning the gold medal in the under-20 junior competition at the Junior and Youth World Championships, held in China from April 7 to 15. He clinched the title after defeating the neutral athlete Alexander Kirk in the final match with a score of 15-5, earning Egypt its first medal of the tournament.
Tolaba had already secured a world medal for Egypt after reaching the semifinals, following a 15-6 win over Valery Kornilov in the quarterfinals. He then went on to defeat Pavel Bozankov, another neutral athlete, in the semifinals with a close 15-13 score, earning his spot in the final.
He began his campaign with five wins out of six matches in the group stage, which qualified him for the knockout rounds. In the round of 128, he beat Germany’s Niklas Distelkamp 15-7.
In the round of 64, Tolaba delivered a dominant performance against Britain’s Callum Binman, winning 15-2. He continued his streak in the round of 32 by defeating South Korea’s Jeonjoon Han 15-9, then beat Germany’s Ruben Linder 15-6 in the round of 16.
The Egyptian under-20 junior national team includes Abdelrahman Tolaba, Omar Khaled Attia, Mostafa Tamer Tahoun, and Ali Omar Attia. In the under-17 youth category, Egypt is represented by Omar Khaled Attia and Ali Omar Attia.
In the under-20 girls’ competition, Egypt’s team consists of Jana Ehab, Sara Hosny, Lujain Khaled, and Jana Khaled. In the under-17 girls’ category, the participants are Sara Hosny, Fatima Wahba, and Arwa Nasser.
The team is coached by Captain Tamer Tahoun and Captain Ahmed Ali, under the leadership of Captain Tarek El-Husseiny, president of the Egyptian Fencing Federation and head of the delegation, assisted by Engineer Ahmed Nabil, a board member.
The medical team includes Dr. Ahmed Abdelghany (physiotherapy), Dr. Ghada Atef (movement rehabilitation), along with Dr. Ayman Ghoneim as the administrative director.
