Egypt Daily News – The National Bank of Egypt, Egypt, Banque Misr and Commercial International Bank (CIB) have begun activating the Apple Pay service on their cards. Sources in the communications sector said in exclusive statements that this service will be activated in the rest of the banks operating in the Egyptian market successively during the coming weeks.

“Apple Pay” is a payment service developed by Apple that allows users to make payments through various Apple devices, iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.

The Central Bank of Egypt announced the start of activating the card coding service on a trial basis with a bank during the second quarter of 2024.

In February 2023, the Board of Directors of the Central Bank approved the rules regulating the payment card coding service on electronic device applications, as coding allows the possibility of registering payment cards on smart device applications, and then the possibility of conducting contactless payment transactions inside Egypt using applications on these electronic devices at points of sale, or buy online in an easy and secure way.
