Egypt Daily News – The head of Syria’s transitional phase, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, arrived in Cairo on his first visit to Egypt to attend the Emergency Arab Summit on developments regarding the “Palestinian cause,” according to the official Syrian news agency (SANA).

Al-Sharaa received an official invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to attend the “extraordinary” summit meetings, which discuss a plan for the reconstruction and administration of Gaza that does not allow for the displacement of its residents.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shayyani had arrived in Cairo on Monday to attend the preparatory meetings for the Arab Summit.

Arab leaders in Cairo are discussing an alternative project to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal on Gaza, which stipulates that the United States would take control of the Palestinian enclave and relocate its residents to other countries.

Trump’s plan has faced widespread rejection from Arab states and Palestinians but was warmly welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated on Monday that “the time has come to give Gaza’s residents the freedom to leave.”

Gaza has suffered massive destruction due to the intense war that erupted following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

The United Nations estimates the cost of reconstructing Gaza at more than 53 billion dollars.
