Egypt Daily News – The General Command of the new political administration in Syria announced that its leader, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, met with the United Nations envoy Geir Pedersen to Syria. It said that Al-Sharaa discussed with Pedersen the necessity of providing a safe environment for the return of refugees and providing economic and political support for that.
They also discussed the need to reconsider a road map drawn up by the UN Security Council in 2015.
Transitional Phase
Earlier on Sunday, the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, arrived in the capital, Damascus. He said that “the change we witnessed after the fall of the (Bashar) al-Assad regime provides great hope” for the Syrians.
Pedersen also called in recent days for implementing an “inclusive” transition process to avoid a “new civil war” in Syria.
Yesterday, Saturday, he participated in Aqaba, southern Jordan, alongside Arab ministers, the European Union, and Turkey, in discussions on Syria, where the participants supported “the formation of an inclusive transitional governing body with Syrian consensus” that would allow the transition to “a political system that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people with all its components, through free elections,” supervised by the United Nations.”
