America vetoes passage of a draft Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza

Egypt Daily News – Today, Wednesday, the United States of America used its veto in the UN Security Council on a draft resolution submitted by the ten elected members of the Council, demanding an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, respected by all parties, and also reiterating its demand for an immediate and unconditional release. For all detainees.

In the draft resolution, the Security Council reiterated its demand that the parties comply with their obligations under international law with regard to the persons they detain and to provide the civilian population in the Gaza Strip with immediate access to basic services and humanitarian assistance necessary for their survival.

At the same time, the draft resolution rejects any action aimed at starving the Palestinians, and demands facilitating the full, rapid, safe and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid on a large scale into the Gaza Strip in all its regions and delivering it to all Palestinian civilians who need it, including civilians in the besieged northern Gaza who are In dire need of immediate humanitarian relief, coordinated by the United Nations.

The draft resolution called on all parties to fully comply with international law, including international humanitarian law, in particular its provisions relating to the protection of civilians, including in particular women, children and persons hors de combat, as well as its provisions relating to the protection of civilian objects.
