Egypt Daily News – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the urgent need to end the Gaza war during a brief stop in Israel.
Speaking to reporters before heading to Saudi Arabia, Blinken acknowledged that while Israel has made significant progress in its military objectives since October 7, 2023, there are still crucial steps to take, including the return of hostages and establishing a post-war framework in Gaza.
Blinken’s remarks followed an Israeli missile strike that he suggested was in response to Iran’s actions, highlighting the delicate balance Israel must maintain to avoid further escalation.
He underscored that the U.S. stands firmly against Israel’s reoccupation of Gaza and is focused on securing an effective governance and security framework in the region.
During his visit, Blinken reiterated the importance of facilitating humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza and expressed hopes that recent developments, such as the killing of Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar, could facilitate the return of hostages and ultimately bring an end to the conflict.
Netanyahu acknowledged this possibility and responded positively to Blinken’s suggestions for increasing humanitarian aid efforts.
Moreover, Blinken is also engaged in addressing tensions in Lebanon, where Israeli forces have intensified military operations against Hezbollah as part of a shifting focus from Gaza to the northern border in response to ongoing conflicts.
The U.S. has indicated it is working to resolve tensions in this area swiftly, in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
