Egypt Daily News – British fighter jets took part alongside the United States in carrying out airstrikes on targets it claimed were affiliated with the Houthis in Yemen.
This announcement comes after media outlets close to the Houthi group “Ansar Allah” reported that the country was subjected to several intense airstrikes targeting the Bani Matar, Bani Hashish, Al-Hosn, and Hamdan districts in Sanaa.
British Defense Secretary John Healey stated that the UK “made this decision in response to the ongoing Houthi threat to freedom of navigation,” noting that the threat had caused a 55% drop in shipping activity through the Red Sea, leading to billions of dollars in losses and endangering “the economic security of families in Britain,” according to Healey.
London indicated that it had targeted “a set of buildings used by the Houthis to manufacture drones of the type used to attack ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, located about 25 kilometers south of Sanaa.”
The UK Ministry of Defence explained that Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets from the Royal Air Force participated in the raid, dropping Paveway IV precision-guided bombs. The ministry emphasized that it took “civilian harm into account and carried out the strikes after nightfall,” as stated.
In response, the Government of National Salvation in Sanaa warned the UK, saying it should “reckon with its entanglement and await the consequences of its aggression,” according to the statement.
It added, “No matter the challenges, Yemen will confront the evil trio—the American, British, and Israeli alliance and anyone aligned with them.”
Earlier, the Yemeni Ministry of Interior reported that “a deliberate American airstrike targeted a migrant shelter in the city of Saada in northern Yemen, where 115 migrants of African nationalities were present.”
Al-Masirah TV, affiliated with the Houthis, quoted the civil defense authority as saying that the U.S. strike resulted in the deaths of 68 people and the injury of 47 others.
