Saudi Arabia has been chosen as the host highly anticipated Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek in the 2022-23 Egypt Cup final, according to Amer Hussien, a board member of the Egyptian Football Association.

Speaking on a television program, Hussien revealed that the final match of the Egypt Cup will take place on 8 March in Saudi Arabia. To secure their place in the final, defending champions Ahly delivered an impressive performance with a 3-0 victory over Enppi in the semi-finals.

Zamalek, on the other hand, secured their spot in the Egypt Cup final after a thrilling encounter with Pyramids FC, which ended in a 3-3 draw in regular time and was decided by penalties, with Zamalek prevailing 4-3.

Hussien also announced changes to the schedule of upcoming matches.

“We decided to postpone Ahly vs. Talae El-Geish that was previously scheduled to be played on 19 February in the Egyptian Premier League as the Reds will face Chabab Belouizdad of Algeria in the CAF Champions League,” Hussien told a television program.

Furthermore, Hussein revealed that the much-anticipated clash between Ahly and Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League will now take place in April. Currently, Ahly sits in eighth position in the league table with 14 points after playing only six games this season.

They hold a three-point advantage over Zamalek, who are in 12th place and have played two more games.

Football fans around the world are eagerly looking forward to the Cairo derby in the Egypt Cup final, as Ahly and Zamalek, two of Egypt's most successful and popular football clubs, battle it out for the coveted title on Saudi Arabian soil.
