Egypt Daily News – Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the determinants of the Egyptian position on developments in Syria are based on four main elements:
The first of which is the necessity of respecting Syrian sovereignty and the unity and integrity of its territories.
The second of which is preserving the state’s institutions and capabilities, and the third of which is the start of a comprehensive, purely national Syrian political process that establishes a new phase of societal consensus without dictates or external interference.
The third was the necessity of managing the transitional phase without excluding any party, in a way that reflects the religious and sectarian diversity within Syria, and allows all political forces a role in managing the transitional process.
The fourth element is working with regional and international partners to support Syria in reconstruction and ensure the safe return of Syrian refugees.
He stressed that the Egyptian position aims to achieve the exclusive Syrian national interest, restore security and stability, and preserve the state’s capabilities and pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following with great interest the historical political change that Syria is witnessing, as it is a sister Arab country with an exceptional historical relationship with Egypt.
