Egypt Daily News – In a new step that strengthens its regional position in the field of energy, Egypt announced an important milestone in the “Dabaa” nuclear power plant project, which represents a qualitative leap in its strategy to develop clean and sustainable energy sources.

The Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority said in a statement on Sunday that “the process of installing the metal structure supporting the reactor core trap in the first unit was completed successfully.”

The authority added, “This achievement comes within the framework of the acceleration of the pace of work on the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, as the facilities are witnessing a noticeable increase in the pace of construction and an increase in the level of construction.”

The authority explained that “the metal structure is an essential part of the reactor’s passive safety systems, as it contains cooling pipes, which supply the reactor core trap with the water necessary for cooling and protection.”

The structure weighs 158.2 tons, is 2.6 meters high and 11 meters in diameter, and consists of 3 metal rings supported by a thermal protection system covered in heat-resistant steel, ensuring its safety even in extreme thermal conditions.

The Dabaa nuclear station is the first of its kind in Egypt, as it includes 4 power units with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts each. The reactors used are the Russian “VVER-1200 (ASE-2006)” of the advanced third generation, which is known for its high level of safety and operational efficiency, and is successfully operating in several nuclear plants around the world.
