Egypt Daily News – On Sunday, Egypt announced its hosting of an “emergency Arab summit” on February 27th, to address “the emerging and dangerous developments of the Palestinian issue.”
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement, in which it said that the decision to host the summit “came after coordination with the Kingdom of Bahrain, the current president of the Arab summit, and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.”
It also confirmed that it came “after consultation and coordination on the part of Egypt, and at the highest levels, with Arab countries in recent days, including the State of Palestine that requested the summit.”
These developments come in light of the statements of US President Donald Trump, in which he suggested that the United States take over in Gaza from Israel, and establish “Riviera of the Middle East”, after resettlement of the Palestinians elsewhere, such as Egypt, Jordan, Somalia, Puntland, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
President Trump has repeatedly suggested since January 25 that the Palestinians be transferred from Gaza to Arab countries in the region, an idea that Arab and Palestinian countries reject.
Arab countries want to implement a two -state solution and establish a Palestinian state alongside Israel, based on the 4th of June 1967 border and in adherence to the United Nations Security Council resolution 242 of 1967.
