Egypt has welcomed recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump on efforts to reduce tensions with Iran, as Cairo increases its diplomatic activity to contain a rapidly escalating regional crisis.

In an official statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry expressed support for all initiatives aimed at easing tensions, emphasizing that Egypt is working closely with regional and international partners to prevent further deterioration and prioritize dialogue as the main path toward resolving the conflict.

Cairo warned of the serious consequences of continued escalation, pointing to risks not only to regional stability but also to global trade and economic conditions—particularly amid tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of attacks targeting Gulf states and Jordan, stressing its firm rejection of any violations of their sovereignty. Officials warned that the situation could spiral into a wider regional conflict if not urgently contained.

In recent days, Egypt has intensified diplomatic efforts, maintaining continuous contact with key parties in an attempt to prevent the situation from reaching a point of no return. The government said it is coordinating closely with international and regional actors to push for a ceasefire and limit the spread of the conflict.

Cairo also highlighted Trump’s comments about ongoing contacts with Iran and his decision to delay potential strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, describing these developments as an opportunity to build momentum toward negotiations and political solutions.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has played a central role in these efforts, stepping up regional engagement through a series of visits and calls with Arab and Gulf leaders. He reaffirmed Egypt’s position that Gulf security is closely linked to its own national security.

His recent tour included visits to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, following earlier engagements in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Through these efforts, Egypt has sought to strengthen regional coordination and promote a unified response to the crisis.

At the same time, mediation efforts are continuing. Reports indicate that Egypt, along with Turkey and Pakistan, has been facilitating indirect communication between Washington and Tehran. These discussions reportedly involve U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, focusing on ending the conflict and resolving key issues.

Trump has maintained that discussions are progressing, describing recent exchanges as constructive and suggesting that both sides are interested in reaching a deal. He has also indicated that a temporary pause in military operations, including a possible five-day halt to strikes on energy infrastructure, could help create space for diplomacy.

However, uncertainty remains, as Iranian officials have denied that any negotiations are taking place, highlighting the gap between public statements and behind-the-scenes diplomacy.

Amid these developments, Egypt has stressed the importance of keeping communication channels open and supporting diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. Cairo reaffirmed its commitment to working with regional and international partners to contain the crisis and maintain stability.
