Egypt Daily News – Egypt has condemned Israel’s recent withdrawal from the 1967 agreement that governs the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), labeling the move as a significant violation of international law and a threat to the Palestinian cause, especially regarding the rights of refugees.

In a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country emphasized that Israel’s decision reflects a systematic pattern of undermining international humanitarian principles and disregarding the international community’s role in supporting Palestinian rights.

Egypt expressed concerns over the potential humanitarian crisis resulting from this decision, which could lead to a collapse of critical services provided by UNRWA, such as education and healthcare. The majority of Gaza’s population consists of Palestinian refugees, many of whom depend on these services.

Additionally, Egypt called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take action in response to Israel’s actions and urged the international community to take a stronger stance against measures that exacerbate the suffering of Palestinian civilians.

The UNSC has already expressed “grave concern” over Israel’s decision to terminate the agreement and has been monitoring the ongoing situation, including the impact on aid delivery to Gaza.

Israel’s decision came amid ongoing hostilities in the region, which have reportedly resulted in significant loss of life and disruption of humanitarian aid to civilians. With more than 200 UNRWA staff reported killed and numerous facilities bombed, the situation remains dire for many Palestinians currently affected by the conflict.
