Egypt Daily News – On Saturday, a meeting took place between Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Ati and a delegation from the Palestinian Fatah Movement, headed by the Secretary of the Central Committee, General Jibril Rajoub. During the meeting, Egypt emphasized that “illusions of power will not help Israel achieve security as it imagines; on the contrary, the atrocities it commits will reinforce feelings of hatred and revenge against it in the region.”
In the meeting, Dr. Abdel Ati stressed that “what Israel is doing creates more barriers to peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the region, which has a severely negative impact on its security, stability, and opportunities for achieving sustainable peace.” The minister also reiterated Egypt’s support for the Palestinian Authority and its rejection of “Israeli attempts to undermine the unity of Palestinian territories and separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank.”
Dr. Abdel Ati reaffirmed Egypt’s stance against the displacement of Palestinians from their lands and discussed the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the importance of strengthening Palestinian unity and the role of the Palestinian Authority, to ensure the realization of the Palestinian people’s aspirations and hopes.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister called for the need to reach a permanent and fair solution to the Palestinian issue through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamer Khalaf, stated that the meeting included an exchange of views and assessments regarding the current developments in Gaza and the West Bank in light of the serious Israeli escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Minister Abdel Ati reviewed “the latest efforts by Egypt to restore the ceasefire in Gaza and to resume humanitarian aid as quickly as possible.”
During the meeting, the Minister stressed Egypt’s complete rejection of the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank, Israel’s aggressive policies in the region, and its use of overwhelming military force without regard for international humanitarian law, condemning Israel’s ongoing practices against civilians and treating itself as a state above the law.
The Egyptian minister also warned of the “consequences of continued international silence towards what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories.”
