Egypt Daily News – His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain emphasized that Egypt is not just a friendly country but a cornerstone of the Euro-Mediterranean process and an indispensable player on the African continent, where it plays an active role through the African Union.

This came during his speech at the official luncheon he hosted in honor of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, attended by Queen Letizia of Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and senior Spanish officials.

He stated that Egypt is a strategic partner in the Middle East, a region that, unfortunately, is experiencing a new phase of instability marked by geopolitical tensions and prolonged conflicts—along with all the pain, suffering, and significant humanitarian challenges that should not be overlooked or addressed ambiguously.

He added that President El-Sisi’s recent visit to his country a decade ago provided a decisive boost to strengthening bilateral relations. At that time, he had affirmed in this very place that Egypt could count on Spain, while he was equally confident that Spain could rely on Egypt. Time has proven the strength and continuity of this mutual commitment.

He continued by saying that over the past decade, the two countries have worked resolutely for peace, stability, and shared security in a geographical and historical space that unites and inspires us—the Mediterranean Sea, the cradle of civilization and the great melting pot of cultures. This space is full of shared challenges as well as opportunities for cooperation for mutual benefit and for our shared environment.

His Majesty the King of Spain expressed his conviction that President El-Sisi’s new visit will not only strengthen the partnership but also represent a new chapter in their relations, opening further avenues of cooperation for the benefit of both societies.
