During the 29th edition of the Cairo ICT Exhibition and Conference for the Middle East and Africa, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, announced the launch of a new suite of digital services designed specifically for Egyptians living abroad. The services, introduced on a trial basis through the Digital Egypt platform, mark a significant step toward modernizing government services and expanding digital accessibility for expatriates. The new system enables Egyptians abroad to electronically obtain four essential civil-status documents: birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, and death certificates. The process is fully integrated with the relevant government authorities, ensuring accuracy and official authentication. Once requested through the platform, the documents are issued and then transferred via Egypt Post to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the appropriate consulate for final endorsement.

Following consular authentication, the certified documents are shipped directly to the citizen’s residence abroad through a secure and expedited international postal system. According to Dr. Talaat, the initiative represents a qualitative leap in facilitating access to official paperwork for Egyptian expatriates, guaranteeing timely delivery, credibility, and end-to-end service integration.

The rollout reflects close cooperation among multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Emigration and Expatriate Affairs. In its initial phase, the service is available for delivery to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with expansion to additional countries expected as part of the next development stages.

Officials say the initiative addresses long-standing challenges faced by Egyptians abroad who often needed to undertake lengthy or in-person procedures to obtain civil documents. By digitizing the entire workflow, from application to issuance to consular authentication and final delivery, Egypt aims to bring government services closer to its diaspora community, while reinforcing the broader national strategy for digital transformation.
