Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty participated in a high-level quadrilateral meeting on Sunday, March 29, in Islamabad, Pakistan, alongside Mohammad Ishaq Dar of Pakistan, Hakan Fidan of Turkey, and Faisal bin Farhan of Saudi Arabia. The meeting focused on the escalating military tensions in the region and ongoing efforts to reduce hostilities and promote stability.

Tamim Khalaf, speaking on behalf of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said the ministers discussed ways to strengthen coordinated diplomatic efforts in response to the rapid escalation, emphasizing the use of dialogue and negotiation as the primary means to manage the crisis and its potential fallout on regional security.

The ministers also explored the ongoing initiatives within the quadrilateral framework to encourage a direct negotiation track between the United States and Iran, aiming to ease tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading into broader instability.

Economic and strategic implications of the regional escalation were also reviewed, including potential impacts on international shipping, supply chains, food security, and energy markets amid rising oil and energy prices.

During the meeting, Abdelatty highlighted the importance of combining regional and international efforts to contain the situation, underlining that diplomatic de-escalation represents the only viable solution to the current crisis. He expressed hope that the quadrilateral’s coordinated initiatives would progressively reduce tensions and establish a pathway toward ending the conflict.

Looking ahead, the ministers agreed on the need to study comprehensive regional arrangements that strengthen collective security mechanisms and develop effective implementation tools, considering these measures a strategic necessity to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability across the region.

The meeting concluded with all four countries pledging to maintain close coordination and continuous consultation to support de-escalation efforts, ensure regional security, and prevent the conflict from widening further.
