Egypt officially kicked off its Senate elections this week under full judicial supervision and widespread international observation, according to Hazem Badawy, President of the National Election Authority (NEA). Speaking at a press conference marking the start of the electoral process, Badawy emphasized that every ballot box across the country will be overseen by a judge, ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the vote.

“The Egyptian people, with their awareness and commitment to the right to choose, are the true decision-makers,” Badawy declared. He underscored that the NEA has made extensive preparations to guarantee a fair and secure electoral environment, adhering to international standards.

The elections will take place for Egyptian citizens abroad on August 1 and 2, while domestic voters will head to the polls on August 4 and 5.

In a clear sign of Egypt’s commitment to transparency, Badawy announced that the process will be monitored by 20 foreign diplomatic missions, nine international organizations, 59 domestic civil society groups, and 168 international media outlets. “We are opening the process to the world to ensure that it is not only democratic but also observed and evaluated on a global scale,” he said.

Badawy noted that the NEA has invested heavily in technological infrastructure to facilitate voter access and reduce obstacles at polling stations. “All necessary technical resources have been provided to make voting easy and secure, ensuring that each citizen’s voice reaches the ballot box without pressure or interference,” he said.

The run-up to the Senate elections has been marked by an active political atmosphere. Badawy described the campaign period as more than just speeches and posters it has become a genuine expression of civic awareness and public engagement.

He concluded by issuing a national call to action: “I urge all Egyptians to participate in the Senate elections and exercise their constitutional right. Your vote is your voice and your voice shapes the future.”
