Egypt Daily News – Three sources from the trade and industry sectors reported today, Friday, that Egypt has launched a tender to purchase 20 shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet energy demand during the winter, following a significant decline in domestic gas production.

This marks the first time since 2018 that Egypt has issued such a tender to address winter demand.

This year, Egypt has reverted to being a net importer of natural gas, having purchased over 30 shipments to satisfy summer demand, after previously being an exporting country as part of its aspiration to become a reliable supplier to Europe.

The tender proposed by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation will close on September 12. Egypt intends to receive 17 shipments between October 4 and November 29 at the Ain Sokhna port on the Red Sea, along with 3 shipments at the Aqaba port in Jordan during the same timeframe.

The consulting firm Energy Aspects has reported that Egypt’s domestic gas production fell in May to its lowest level in six years, decreasing nearly 25% from its peak in 2021, and it is anticipated to decline by 22.5% by the end of 2028.
