Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a phone call on March 23 with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East and promote diplomatic solutions to ongoing crises. The conversation took place within the framework of ongoing coordination between Cairo and Moscow on regional developments.
During the call, Minister Abdel-Aati emphasized the need to strengthen regional and international efforts to de-escalate conflicts, prioritize diplomacy, and prevent a wider deterioration that could threaten both regional and international peace and security. He warned of the severe consequences of continued violence and the expansion of hostilities in the Middle East, stressing the importance of coordinated action to prevent the region from sliding into widespread chaos.
The ministers also addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Abdel-Aati highlighted the need to continue supporting the Palestinian cause and accelerate the work of the national committee managing Gaza’s affairs. He described this as a critical step in the transitional phase toward enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume full responsibilities in Gaza and the West Bank. The minister further stressed the importance of early recovery efforts, reconstruction, and improving humanitarian conditions in the territory.
The discussion also covered developments in Ukraine, where Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent position calling for sustained political efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomatic channels, ensuring regional and international stability.
This exchange reflects Egypt’s active diplomatic engagement on multiple fronts, promoting de-escalation, humanitarian support, and conflict resolution through dialogue and international coordination.
