Egypt signs a military cooperation protocol with Somalia

Egypt Daily News – On Wednesday, Egypt signed a military cooperation protocol with Somalia and announced plans to open an embassy in Mogadishu.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is on an official visit to Egypt.

During their meeting, Sisi emphasized Egypt’s support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, rejecting any external interference in its internal matters.

The leaders discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation through initiatives like establishing a direct flight route between Cairo and Mogadishu and opening the new Egyptian embassy in the Somali capital.

President Mohamud expressed Somalia’s desire to strengthen economic, security, and political ties with Egypt, recognizing the contribution of Egyptian institutions in developing Somali capabilities.

The two leaders also addressed various regional and international issues of shared concern, agreeing to enhance consultation and coordination to promote security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.
