Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Friday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, as part of ongoing coordination between Egypt and the United States on regional issues of mutual concern.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the conversation focused on the latest round of negotiations between the United States and Iran held in Geneva regarding Tehran’s nuclear program. Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving outstanding issues related to the Iranian nuclear file through negotiations.
The minister stressed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining the negotiating track and avoiding further escalation in the region, emphasizing the importance of settling pending disputes and reaching balanced solutions that serve the interests of all parties involved.
The call also addressed developments in the Gaza Strip in light of the first meeting of the Peace Council in Washington, D.C.. Abdelatty underscored the need to expedite implementation of the second phase of the US president’s plan and to provide full support to the national committee tasked with administering Gaza.
He further called for the deployment of an international stabilization force to ensure adherence to the ceasefire, describing the step as essential for paving the way toward early recovery and reconstruction efforts. Abdelatty also stressed the importance of maintaining the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian and relief aid to all areas of the enclave.
For his part, Witkoff praised Egypt’s central role in supporting regional security and stability, highlighting Cairo’s continued efforts to contain crises and advance political solutions that help de-escalate tensions and enhance prospects for stability across the Middle East.
