Egyptian Air Force Celebrates its National Day

Egypt Daily News – Today the Egyptian Air Force is celebrating its ninety-second anniversary, coinciding with Egypt and the Armed Forces’ celebrations of the fifty-first anniversary of the glorious October victories.


Lieutenant General Mahmoud Fouad Abdel Jawad, Commander of the Air Force, affirmed that the Air Force is resolutely continuing to carry out all the tasks assigned to it to maintain the nation’s security and protect its sanctities within the integrated operational framework of the armed forces, in accordance with the latest global weapon systems in combat aviation.

Lieutenant General Mahmoud Fouad Abdel Jawad, Commander of the Air Force, congratulated the “Sky Eagles” from various specialties on the occasion, in which the Air Force personnel wrote one of the most important heroic epics that took place on the morning of October 14, 1973.

When the enemy attempted to attack the air bases and airports located in the Delta region and directed its striking force towards them, the enemy was surprised by the Egyptian Air Force, who taught them a harsh lesson that will not be erased from his memory despite his qualitative and quantitative superiority. They confronted him in the longest aerial battle.


The Air Force Commander added, in a speech on the occasion of Air Force Day, that The Air Battle of El-Mansoura, Egypt (October 14, 1973), considered by many experts to be the largest and longest battle between jets in history. It was managed from the ground by the Air Force Marshal Hosni Mubarak and who was a genius handling how, when and where the Egyptian planes would intercept the enemy and was instrumental in the victory.

The battle saw approximately 60 Egyptian MiGs engage a force of 120 Israeli fighters and fighter bombers for an incredible “53 minutes”. The battle cost the Israelis 17 aircraft – while the Egyptians admitted to losing 6 MiGs.


Lieutenant General Mahmoud Fouad Abdel Jawad emphasized that the Air Force is resolutely continuing to carry out all the tasks assigned to it to maintain the nation’s security and protect its sanctities within the integrated operational framework of the armed forces, in accordance with the latest global weapon systems in combat aviation.


Lieutenant General Mahmoud Fouad Abdel Jawad pointed to the continuous support provided by the political leadership and the General Command of the Armed Forces to the Air Force for the development and modernization of its capabilities.

A comprehensive plan has been developed according to a strategic vision to support the Air Force with many modern aircraft of various types, enhancing its capabilities to protect the skies of our beloved Egypt and support the pillars of Egyptian national security.

He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Air Force personnel on their day for their efforts in all strategic directions, in implementation of the vision of the political leadership and the General Command of the Armed Forces.

He urged them to continue working day and night to maintain the successes achieved by the Eagles of the Air Force with efficiency and competence under various circumstances.
