Egypt Daily News – An Egyptian official has stated that Egypt is seeking a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Philadelphia Corridor, which lies between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
The official noted that there are significant disagreements that hinder progress toward an agreement. Recent developments indicate that Israel submitted a revised plan that includes a map outlining the deployment of its forces, which proposes a reduction in both the number of forces and military sites along the corridor, according to Israeli sources.
Previously, Egyptian negotiators rejected an earlier map put forth by Israel, deeming it unfeasible and refusing to share it with Hamas.
The Philadelphi Corridor is a strategically significant 14-kilometer (8.7 miles) stretch of land in southern Gaza that is currently under Israeli control.
The Egyptian official emphasized that merely reducing the Israeli military presence in the corridor is inadequate, reiterating that Egypt demands a total withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area.
He also mentioned that Egypt plans to update Hamas on the negotiations once a delegation from the movement arrives in Cairo.
