Egypt Daily News – Hanfy Gabali, the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, emphasized today, Tuesday, the necessity of strengthening Egyptian-Russian parliamentary relations in a way that allows for the exchange of legislative expertise and coordination of positions in international and regional parliamentary forums.
The Egyptian House of Representatives mentioned in a statement on Tuesday evening that Gabali’s remarks came during his meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Alexander Babakov. Gabali referred to the historical and strong relations between Egypt and Russia at all levels and across various fields, noting the positive momentum that the bilateral relations are currently experiencing, especially in the parliamentary aspect.
Gabali affirmed the importance of supporting the Egyptian Parliament’s role in enhancing bilateral cooperation with Russia in all areas and at all levels. For his part, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Alexander Babakov, praised the alignment of views between the two presidents regarding global and regional issues of mutual interest.
Babakov highlighted Russia’s position on supporting the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, and discussed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between Russia and Egypt to strengthen the ties between the two friendly countries.
Egyptian-Russian relations are witnessing noticeable development. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, affirmed during a phone call in January that both countries have a mutual interest in continuing to strengthen Russian-Egyptian relations.
Putin and Sisi discussed bilateral relations, including the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal and regional developments in Gaza and Russia.
It is worth noting that Russian Ambassador to Egypt, Georgy Borisenko, stated last February that President Sisi had received an invitation to visit Moscow to participate in the celebrations set to take place in the Russian capital on May 9th, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and Russia hopes that the invitation will be accepted.
