Egypt Daily News – Judicial sources revealed new details about the Criminal Court’s decision to remove the names of 716 from the lists of terrorism and terrorist entities.
The sources confirmed that these names represent the first batch, and included the late leader Youssef al-Qaradawi, the son of the deposed president, Abdullah, and the Muslim Brotherhood leader, Wajdi Ghoneim, in addition to businessmen and journalists who were involved in the case of communicating with the deposed president, Mohamed Morsi.
Updates on the Muslim Brotherhood’s financing issue
The sources said that the Criminal Court’s decision reflects new developments in the Muslim Brotherhood’s financing case, which was reopened more than ten years after it was opened in 2014.
The case returned to the scene after the Court of Cassation last May canceled the inclusion of all its defendants on lists of terrorist entities and terrorists.
Rationale for the criminal decision
The Criminal Court, headed by Counselor Wagdy Abdel Moneim, explained in the reasons for its decision that it was found that there were no roles for the names previously listed in the accusations included in the case. Investigations indicated that their criminal activity had ceased, which led to the disappearance of the legal reasons for their continued inclusion on terrorist lists.
President Sisi’s directives and review of the situation
The sources indicated that the reconsideration of the conditions of those listed comes in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to review the cases and open a new page with the people of the country who have stopped engaging in any terrorist activity. This review resulted in the exclusion of 716 people from the lists, the most prominent of whom were:
International Muslim Brotherhood leader – Youssef Nada
- Preacher Wajdi Ghoneim.
- Former Minister Yahya Hamed.
- Journalist Haitham Abu Khalil.
- Leader Amir Bassam.
- Bahaa El-Din Saad Al-Shater.
- Jihad Essam Al-Haddad.
- Journalist Ibrahim Al-Darawi.
- Economist and businessman Omar Al-Shenety and his brother Mustafa Al-Shenety.
- Businessman Walid Khamis Asfour.
Names of the deceased
The list also included the names of deceased personalities, most prominent of whom are: - Preacher Yusuf Al-Qaradawi.
- Leaders Mr. Askar, Mr. Nazili, and Masoud Al-Subahi.
- Abdullah Mohamed Morsi, son of the late deposed President Mohamed Morsi.
- Businessman Ali Fahmy Tolba.
“Extra News” channel reported that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed to open a new page with young people who stopped terrorist practices, to integrate them into society as good citizens.
The channel added that the Public Prosecution responded to the president’s directives to release hundreds of previously imprisoned people, in addition to a request to exclude hundreds of others from terrorist lists.
