Egypt Daily News – Tariq Suleiman, the doctor for the football team, has raised serious concerns regarding the risks associated with playing on artificial turf, suggesting it can lead to significant injuries for players.

His comments come in light of the decision to rest Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian national team’s captain, for the upcoming match against Mauritania. This decision was made to prioritize Salah’s safety, given the match will be contested on artificial turf.

The Egyptian national team is set to face Mauritania next Tuesday in the fourth round of their competition, following a 2-0 win in the first leg. Salah’s omission from this match aims to prevent potential injuries, as confirmed during a meeting between him and the team’s technical staff, led by Hossam Hassan.

Dr. Suleiman elaborated on the dangers of artificial turf during an interview on “On Sport FM,” stating, “I am with Mohamed Salah, because artificial turf is harmful in every way, as it affects the ankle and pelvis and causes knee stiffness.”

He highlighted that the match will be played on the first generation of artificial turf, which is particularly detrimental. According to Suleiman, players may suffer injuries even without physical contact, as their shoes can get caught in the turf, leading to falls and injuries.
